7 Years Strong!

by | Aug 3, 2015 | Missions Articles

Boarding a very large plane on Korean Airlines, I can tell you first hand that I was not thinking about what would follow in the next seven years!  On August 3rd, 2008, I set out to be a Modern Day Field Worker in Kunming, China. I was the first of it’s kind. I really had no idea what being a missionary was all about and we at Modern Day  had no idea if “Modern Day” would become anything other than a cool name and a wishful idea. My time on the mission field would only last  four months, but Modern Day as an organization was already starting to build and gain momentum.

Fast forward seven years and we at Modern Day stand in awe of what God can do and will do through people who step out in faith and believe on Him. In 7 years, we have served over 250 field workers in 49 different countries. Currently we have 205 active field workers. We have had over 3,100 donating partners making over 22,000 donations. We have processed over $4.5 million in donations for our field workers! In 2015 thus far, we have already added 47 new field workers and this past month had more online donations then ever before. Still, we feel this is just the beginning.

There are so many people that have played a key part in helping Modern Day get to this place. You know who you are. We love each of you and are so grateful for your commitment to Modern Day and the Great Commission.

We know that in Bible numerology that 7 means completion. In a way, it does feel like this is the completion of the beginning and we are now stepping into the even greater destiny of what God has for Modern Day. In the next few months, we will be releasing a new software that will be a game changer in the way Modern Day operates. Also, in October we will be hosting our second Building Bridges conference in Dallas/Fort Worth. In addition, we are working hard on completing a cutting edge video resource page that we think will be super informative and encouraging to the Modern Day missions community and beyond.

We look back with great gratitude and joy, but we are also digging in our heels and dreaming about what these next 7 years could hold. So we march on with the Lord and His master plan of drawing all men to Himself and fulfilling the Great Commission!

Why is it Important to be Resilient?

The facts are only sometimes representative of reality, and there’s more to the story than we see. It’s powerful when we tune in to that compass bearing, look to God to help us create a complete picture of reality, and not just say, “Truth is whatever my sense is, but Lord, tell me the facts and the greater vantage point.”

Navigating the Pain of Change and Disappointment

That was the order we were given within minutes of discovering our residencies had been denied renewal. The city hall official was not hostile or aggressive, simply delivering orders. I responded that we would “absolutely not be leaving in thirty days.” She mentioned they would send a police officer to our door if we did not comply. I told her she could send the king; I still would not leave after thirty days. That was impossible!
