Abba, I belong to You.

“Abba, I belong to you.
You’re more real than the ground I am standing on. You’re more real than the wind in my lungs. Your thoughts define me, you’re inside me. You’re my reality.”I listened to this song and breathed it in some time back as my friends the Stones led worship one evening.

In those moments when I feel lonely I can reach up and experience His reality and He becomes (and is) more real than the ground I am standing on.This happened in the Sertao over Easter weekend. Easter is my favorite holiday to celebrate and I was really missing my son, Chase. Missing my family and my friends. I woke up on the Saturday before Easter and was experiencing this loneliness. Instead of dwelling there, I knew I needed Abba so I spent some time with Him and began to experience His joy and love for my team. He began to flow in love towards them and it was great fun to move with Him and encourage and pray with the team.During our worship time, we were instructed to find 3 people to exhort, encourage, and prophesy over. I had already been doing that this morning and was excited that I would get to hear words for myself. Except… No one came to me. I went to one person to share what I felt from Abba about them and they returned a word. But, then no one came. I was sad and began to ask God what was wrong with me? Why didn’t anyone care enough to give me a word? You know how we do… We get all caught up in ourselves and start to slide into poor pitiful me, right? God began to love me, comfort me and show me that it wasn’t them or me that was stopping the words. It was Him. Because He wanted me to Himself. He had something special for me on Easter weekend. My hands began to feel as if they were dipped in paraffin wax. They were hot and He was holding them up and in His hands. He said “I am anointing your hands for healing.” And then He began to just explode my heart with love and joy.hat night during our time with the village we had a prayer time for healing and yes! Many were healed. One of the women asked me to pray for her son. During this time I noticed she seemed to be experiencing pain in her shoulder. We prayed and all the pain was gone. She wasn’t nearly as excited as I was! She was more excited to have the love and attention of the Jesus in us.

Easter arrived and we went to visit the homes in the village and invite them to lunch and then to a movie and worship time that evening. I arrived with my team at the home of a wonderful and sweet young woman that I had met last time we were there. She wanted prayer for her marriage. She is so fun to pray for, because she loves the love of Jesus, she will get overwhelmed by Him and she won’t know what to do about the joy she is feeling so she looks away and breathes deeply to settle down. One day she is just going to release it all and that village will be rocked! I noticed her eye was red and watering as it had been the last time I was there. I asked her about it and then we prayed. Yes, God healed! She was quite surprised. She went and got her younger sister – who looked to be around 13. Her sister had what appeared to be bulging disks or a spinal curve. I am not sure what was going on. However and whatever it was, it caused her much pain; especially when she sat down. We prayed and Jesus did what Jesus does. He healed her. When she sat down, no pain. When she stood up her spine was straight! No sign of the previous condition. Another came and her tumor began to disappear under my fingers. We went to other homes and that night more were healed. What makes me overflow with joy is that He could have done that without anyone being involved, much like He spoke to me directly on Saturday – not through others. Just Him. He could have healed that way. Yet, He chose me on Easter weekend to participate with Him. Me. I don’t even speak Portuguese! But, I spoke of Him and His love and He healed many. I am gripped with His goodness and delighted in His favor. He showed me that He is more real than my loneliness.

The facts are only sometimes representative of reality, and there’s more to the story than we see. It’s powerful when we tune in to that compass bearing, look to God to help us create a complete picture of reality, and not just say, “Truth is whatever my sense is, but Lord, tell me the facts and the greater vantage point.”

Navigating the Pain of Change and Disappointment

That was the order we were given within minutes of discovering our residencies had been denied renewal. The city hall official was not hostile or aggressive, simply delivering orders. I responded that we would “absolutely not be leaving in thirty days.” She mentioned they would send a police officer to our door if we did not comply. I told her she could send the king; I still would not leave after thirty days. That was impossible!
