The Connection with the Holy

by | Jun 30, 2014 | Missions Articles

I have loved music for as long as I can remember. It is in music that I can find a remarkable connection with God through His Holy Spirit. As I lift the name of Jesus high, I find my heart being moved to a greater expression, I love it. This is why I enjoy worshipping. This is why I enjoy singing. This is why I enjoy leading people into this same heartfelt connection. This connection is what makes worship authentic…two hearts captivated by each other.

When Moses had his meeting with God at the burning bush, we are told that Moses turned and stopped to look. This is the same connection I am referring to in worship. At this moment God told Moses concerning His people, “I’ve heard their cries, I know about their pain, I have come to help them.”

This desire has not changed, as God is the same today, yesterday, and tomorrow. His desire for the nations has not shifted. God hears their cries, He knows their pain, and He is helping. My desire is that we know this plan. However, this plan will not be known unless we are daily pursuing the God of the plan. Pray with me that through the songs we sing and the worship we give unto God we would connect with Him with all our heart and in this connection, we would know His message to us. Pray that the authenticity of desire will be more than head knowledge but that it would captivate our heart and mark us eternally.

The facts are only sometimes representative of reality, and there’s more to the story than we see. It’s powerful when we tune in to that compass bearing, look to God to help us create a complete picture of reality, and not just say, “Truth is whatever my sense is, but Lord, tell me the facts and the greater vantage point.”

Navigating the Pain of Change and Disappointment

That was the order we were given within minutes of discovering our residencies had been denied renewal. The city hall official was not hostile or aggressive, simply delivering orders. I responded that we would “absolutely not be leaving in thirty days.” She mentioned they would send a police officer to our door if we did not comply. I told her she could send the king; I still would not leave after thirty days. That was impossible!
