FIRM – Israel

by | Sep 28, 2015 | Missions Articles

Jerusalem, Israel. An ancient place. A holy place to millions, if not billions, of people from many religions. It is the most contested piece of land in the world. It is our home.

We are Rex and Amy Albers.

The last six and a half years we have been part of a church community in Tyler, TX that values, understands and teaches the Jewish roots of our faith. During our time there we were continually exposed to God’s heart for Israel. It became a common theme in our lives as we began to get more involved in supporting Jewish ministry. When God repeatedly puts something in front of you, its a good indication that He wants you to do something with it. So we decided to take action.

In January of this year, we quit our jobs and sold our possessions and came to Israel, not knowing what God may have for us here. Several months later, we live here full-time. As we were making our journey to Israel, something else was also transpiring. In Loveland, CO an event called Israel Summit was taking place. It was a gathering held and attended by both gentile and Jewish believers in Yeshua (Jesus). The greatest significance of this event was the launch of an Israel-based organization called Fellowship of Israel-Related Ministries (FIRM), a global fellowship of Biblically-grounded believers committed to cultivating Messiah-centered relationships that bless the inhabitants of Israel — Jews, Arabs, and others — and the Jewish community around the world.

From the first time we heard about FIRM, the Lord was stirring our hearts for what FIRM is all about. Within a few weeks of arriving in Israel (and of FIRM’s launch), He opened the doors for us to jump in full time (that’s a whole story in itself)!

The three main goals of FIRM are:
Inspire people to bless Israel
Connect individuals & ministries to work together
Equip individuals & ministries for greater effectiveness in blessing Israel

We are excited about the many opportunities we are working on to accomplish these goals, which include: an interactive website for networking people and organizations to discover their role in the restoration of Israel, conferences around the world to inspire attendees through Messiah-centered teachings on the truth of God’s heart toward Israel, an annual Israel conference and tour designed to introduce attendees to the land and the people of Israel (called Jerusalem Encounter). Our role, specifically, is to organize and direct the events world-wide as well as the annual conference in Jerusalem.

Since the beginning of our journey we (and FIRM) have been met at every turn by God’s favor. He is so faithful! Shalom from Jerusalem!

Why is it Important to be Resilient?

The facts are only sometimes representative of reality, and there’s more to the story than we see. It’s powerful when we tune in to that compass bearing, look to God to help us create a complete picture of reality, and not just say, “Truth is whatever my sense is, but Lord, tell me the facts and the greater vantage point.”

Navigating the Pain of Change and Disappointment

That was the order we were given within minutes of discovering our residencies had been denied renewal. The city hall official was not hostile or aggressive, simply delivering orders. I responded that we would “absolutely not be leaving in thirty days.” She mentioned they would send a police officer to our door if we did not comply. I told her she could send the king; I still would not leave after thirty days. That was impossible!
