The Gospel in Cuba

by | Feb 26, 2015 | Missions Articles

It’s been rough being back in the states for me. People don’t seem to be hungry for the WORD as much as those in foreign lands. I am traveling to the churches we have helped establish a few times a year. I just had a great time ministering in Cuba & Mexico. The day before we arrived in Cuba, the Cuban government canceled our “religious visas” but we went anyway as tourists & was able to minister the same as with the government’s permission. This was my 15th trip to the communist Island of Cuba. When I first smuggled bibles & medicine into Cuba, the churches were very small. Elaine & I had a vision to help marriages in that country because of a 85% divorce rate. Families were in trouble. After my 4th trip into the country I found a Cuban  pastor who also had the same vision. When I explained that vision to him he began to cry. Two weeks before we met with him a believer from the eastern part of the island came to him prophesying that within 2 weeks 2 men would come to him with help for marriages.  Another brother & I were there with that help.

Today that ministry is going out throughout the whole island. This same pastor, at that time had a church of around 100 believers. Today he has over 1,000 in his church & has started over 4 other churches in his suburb of Havana with over 400 believers in each. These churches are unregistered churches, which means they are not recognized by the government but they are “Recognized by Jesus”. We will be bringing the Cuban pastor up to Illinois in the next few months to rest & minister. Cuba is now also sending out missionaries into other countries. Jared, my middle son & I had the privilege of speaking at the 1st missions conference in Cuba. When I asked them about the other speakers, they said your them & then started our 6 hours of teaching on missions. PTL for my son’s ability to preach.

One woman in Cuba asked me if I was the “Miguel” Mike that preached at the church in the 80’s . She said she gave her life to the LORD then but never returned to the church for the next 5 years. Then she walked passed the church 5 years later & there I was, sharing the GOOD NEWS again, She came into the church & never left & now she is on staff at the church we were ministering at.. What an encouragement to me. Our conferences in Mexico & Cuba were filled with miracles. Plans are being made to be in Morocco this spring & back to Mexico in the fall. Thank you for your support.

Why is it Important to be Resilient?

The facts are only sometimes representative of reality, and there’s more to the story than we see. It’s powerful when we tune in to that compass bearing, look to God to help us create a complete picture of reality, and not just say, “Truth is whatever my sense is, but Lord, tell me the facts and the greater vantage point.”

Navigating the Pain of Change and Disappointment

That was the order we were given within minutes of discovering our residencies had been denied renewal. The city hall official was not hostile or aggressive, simply delivering orders. I responded that we would “absolutely not be leaving in thirty days.” She mentioned they would send a police officer to our door if we did not comply. I told her she could send the king; I still would not leave after thirty days. That was impossible!
