Helping Men Overcome Addictions

by | May 23, 2016 | Missions Articles

Donovan and Katrina Littlejohn are continuing to respond to the call of the Lord to fight for men’s purity, and ultimately against human sex trafficking in the Seattle-Tacoma area. By working with men in the local church and establishing an environment of openness, trust, and ultimately victory over their struggles with purity and pornography, a group of men is being built up that can not only impact others in the church but also go to the hurting outside of the church’s 4 walls.

Key to that concept is a willingness to embrace men exactly where they’re at, no matter how far into their addiction they are, show them that the Lord is in control of their healing, and inject them into a process of restoration. Utilizing tools that have been proven to work, Donovan is currently leading others through their first steps in their journey on the path to restoration and healing. Victory is sometimes measured one day at a time for these hurting men, but the Lord is proving Himself strong in their lives and helping them take back ground that was once submitted to the enemy. This is the first step in a longer journey for some of these men, as it has been shown that unless the Lord heals them miraculously, this is a 2 to 5-year process of “reprogramming” and rebuilding their minds, and returning them to a living in a place of health, wholeness and biblical purity and sexuality.

When not engaged with the men, Donovan contracts some of his time out building websites to supplement the income the family receives as missionaries. Donovan and Katrina’s longing is that the Lord would see fit to bless them with a status of “fully-funded” soon, so they can begin expanding the reach of the work they’re doing in the area.

It’s not all work, though, as there are still 3 of their 4 children in the house that need their attention and guidance. Ranging in age from 16 to 5, their joy comes from homeschooling them, showing them the grace and love of the Lord, and overall, a gratitude and thankfulness for the position the Lord has called them to as a family. The Littlejohn’s have the great blessing of being located in a beautiful area of the nation, the Puget Sound of Washington State. As such, there are parks, beaches and walking paths in abundance to get outside and enjoy with the girls when extra time and the weather affords it.

Overall, Donovan and Katrina are honored and privileged to be fighting the battle they are, against pornography addiction, men’s purity, and ultimately how all of those tie into sex trafficking. They are anticipating the day when the Lord opens wide the doors to more men and a larger reach in the area!

Why is it Important to be Resilient?

The facts are only sometimes representative of reality, and there’s more to the story than we see. It’s powerful when we tune in to that compass bearing, look to God to help us create a complete picture of reality, and not just say, “Truth is whatever my sense is, but Lord, tell me the facts and the greater vantage point.”

Navigating the Pain of Change and Disappointment

That was the order we were given within minutes of discovering our residencies had been denied renewal. The city hall official was not hostile or aggressive, simply delivering orders. I responded that we would “absolutely not be leaving in thirty days.” She mentioned they would send a police officer to our door if we did not comply. I told her she could send the king; I still would not leave after thirty days. That was impossible!
