In 2012, after pastoring for over twenty-five years, Lewis and Rachel Hogan launched Awakening USA. Founded with the mandate to protect life, promote the role of pastors in America, and to pray for revival and awakening, Awakening USA uniquely focuses on pastors and churches taking responsibility for the spiritual condition of America. At the beginning of 2014, the Lord spoke to Lewis and Rachel about putting together a prayer gathering for national pastors and Christian leaders in Washington, DC in 2016. As a result of this call, UnitedCry was birthed.

UnitedCry is a pastor-led call with the mandate to start a movement of unified prayer and civic action with pastors and Christian leaders for the purpose of spiritual awakening that reclaims America’s future. America is in crisis. The problems we are facing are not political but spiritual. The mandate for a nation in crisis is Joel 2:16-17; it is a call to gather the elders and leaders, and the people for a sacred and solemn assembly. Truly, we are in a Joel 2 moment in America. The blood of over 57 million babies aborted is crying up from the ground. Our biblical values and religious freedom are being threatened on all sides. Pastors and Christian leaders are the key to America s future.

On April 9, 2016, UnitedCry DC16 will be held at the Lincoln Memorial in Washington, D.C. This prayer gathering is based on Joel 2:16-17.  After setting the date for UnitedCry DC16, the significance of April 9 in history became evident:

  • April 9, 1865 – Ending of the Civil War
  • April 9, 1906 – Birthing of Azusa St. Revival
  • April 9, 1945 – Dietrich Bonhoeffer was executed in Germany as a pastor

These 3 dates from history shape the prayer focus of UnitedCry DC16:  we plan to gather pastors and Christian leaders together to pray for:

  • Repentance of National Sins
  • Revival and Awakening
  • Engagement of pastors and Christian leaders

The theory of the tipping point says that the square root of 1% of a population can bring great change and shift in a nation. Based on 300,000,000 population, the tipping point in America could be as little as 30,000. Thus, we are believing for a minimum of 30,000 pastors, Christian leaders, and believers to gather at the Lincoln Memorial in unified prayer.

Will you prayerfully consider being part of this movement? In pivotal moments in history, God has always sent awakenings and revival. We are in a moment in time were we need to see shifts in the cultural, moral, and spiritual landscape of America. Why is it Important to be Resilient?

The facts are only sometimes representative of reality, and there’s more to the story than we see. It’s powerful when we tune in to that compass bearing, look to God to help us create a complete picture of reality, and not just say, “Truth is whatever my sense is, but Lord, tell me the facts and the greater vantage point.”

Navigating the Pain of Change and Disappointment

That was the order we were given within minutes of discovering our residencies had been denied renewal. The city hall official was not hostile or aggressive, simply delivering orders. I responded that we would “absolutely not be leaving in thirty days.” She mentioned they would send a police officer to our door if we did not comply. I told her she could send the king; I still would not leave after thirty days. That was impossible!
