Missions In Norway

by | Oct 21, 2015 | Missions Articles

As a missionary in Norway, post Christian Europe, my ministry is called Disciples of Worship. I’m  connected with Sounds of the Nations and have been using music to host God’s presence traveling around Europe. We teach& disciple other musicians & worshippers and do outreaches to awaken hearts to the knowledge of God.

This past year, I have been in a Norwegian language course surrounded by people from many nations. That in and of itself has been a mission field! I befriended a fellow music artist from Iran, Soren Bolurchi well known in the Persian music world. He and his wife moved to Norway to start a new life.  We started to cowrite this past year and see where it goes. A few weeks ago we released our first song “The Bridge” on Persian radio and it has received over 13,000 plays within the first week. The song is in the English and Persian language and is about bridging the gap between 2 seemly different cultures. There’s so many voices of hate and fear in our media and news today in our fast-changing world, especially between the 2 countries Soren & I are from. Of course, there are horrible things happening every day, but I believe we shouldn’t allow fear to hold us back from opportunities to truly see and get to know the beauty in people. As Soren & I both live in Norway, we have had the opportunity to lay down the stereotypes and see through different eyes. We discovered, outside of politics and religion, our cultures are more similar than people would think. This song promotes love, understanding, and courage to look beyond judgements and truly see. You can listen to it here: https://www.radiojavan.com/mp3s/mp3/Soren-Bolurchi-Mary-Elizabeth-The-Bridge?start=48230&index=0

My personal goal is to write music that reflects the nature & love of God that can relate to ordinary people and carry God’s Presence. Music bypasses the mind and speaks directly to the heart of man. For it is only God’s Presence that can draw people to Himself.

I am about to go to the studio to record some new songs I’ve been writing about love and challenges in life. It’s titled “Live Love Dream.” I hope to use these songs and sing them in different environments outside the church but also encourage people in the church as they can relate to both. I started a kickstarter to help fund this project and the deadline is Nov.1st. Why is it Important to be Resilient?

The facts are only sometimes representative of reality, and there’s more to the story than we see. It’s powerful when we tune in to that compass bearing, look to God to help us create a complete picture of reality, and not just say, “Truth is whatever my sense is, but Lord, tell me the facts and the greater vantage point.”

Navigating the Pain of Change and Disappointment

That was the order we were given within minutes of discovering our residencies had been denied renewal. The city hall official was not hostile or aggressive, simply delivering orders. I responded that we would “absolutely not be leaving in thirty days.” She mentioned they would send a police officer to our door if we did not comply. I told her she could send the king; I still would not leave after thirty days. That was impossible!
