Hello. My name is Brittney Carlson. God has called me to serve the Japanese both here in the US (Diaspora Ministries) as well as in Japan. I am currently back stateside serving the Diaspora Ministry, specifically the Japanese churches and populations in the VA-MD-DC area as well as working on website, social media and book and training material translation materials for Japanese worldwide to access and use. Your donations through Modern Day Missions Ministries will with these ministries and projects to help reach, grow, equip the Kingdom of God amongst the Japanese in the US and abroad. It is these ministries, projects and partnerships that I plan to update you about and raise prayer warriors, partners and funds for through Modern Day Missions.

God has called me befriend, love, support and encourage the Japanese since I first started studying the Japanese language and culture in the 8th grade. God would have me visit the country again multiple times over multiple decades of my life to experience God from different perspectives, in different roles and in different locations within the country. I would visit again in my 20’s, 30’s and 40’s and see it from the perspective of a teacher, student, tent maker, relief worker, full-time missionary, christian school employee and more. My first visit I attended a Buddhist high school for two months, my second visit I would attend a church and be connected to the Body of Christ in Japan for the first time, and my third visit I would meet and assist various missionaries exposing me to full-time missionary work in Japan.
I first visited Japan in high school on a summer cultural exchange to Wakayama (Kansai-Honshuu). I the studied in Tokyo (Kanto, Honshu) for a year during college as an international exchange student. After college, I taught as an assistant language teacher in Oita (Kyushu) as well as was a tentmaker for local churches for three years. I then returned stateside with the hopes of returning to Japan within a couple years. It would take seven but I would finally return to Japan to work as a relief worker the summer following the March 2011 in Fukushima-Iwate-Tochigi-Aomori-Tokyo. I had plans to go back permanently the next year but once again that was delayed and it would take five years before I would be able to return. I would finally return as a three-year associate missionary to Aomori (Tohoku) helping with church revitalization. This would be followed by a four-year term member missionary in Hakodate and Sapporo Japan (Hokkaido) where I served as a missionary and Native English Teacher to an all girl’s christian school as well as helped with local churches and ministries. I returned from Japan last year.
Though I initially hoped to return to Japan again, God has recalled me stateside and to His Kingdom work here. He has put areas He would like me to study, strengthen, equip and certify myself in before returning to Japan. He has also connected me with Japanese communities and churches in need of equipping, encouraging and support during this time as well as put wonderful projects on my heart and my mind that can be done here stateside. I will stay stateside for at least 1 year and up-to five years, depending how soon He calls me back to full-time ministry abroad. It is these things that I plan to update you about and raise prayer warriors, partners and funds for through this page.
The last two weeks of June, I was able to attend Heartstream Ministry’s 2-Week Intensive Debriefing Program in NC. The classes, counseling and fellowship were very beneficial for me as I transition from fieldside to homeside (diaspora) ministry for this next chapter and season of my life. The total cost of the retreat was $2,800. My former organization covered half of it, and I covered the remaining $1,400 from my personal expenses.
