The Need      
Every year, hundreds of North Korean men, women, and children risk their lives to flee oppression and find safety. Many of them arrive in South Korea or other nations traumatized, vulnerable, and in desperate need of physical, emotional, and spiritual healing. In South Korea, many struggle to adjust and are left isolated without adequate resources or real community. As they face the challenges of resettling into a completely new way of living, we know true healing and redemption can be found in Jesus, the Wounded Healer.  

The Mission
I am blessed to be joining the small but mighty team at Busan New Port Bridge Ministry. Bridge Ministry’s mission, like its name, is to share the Father’s love by becoming a bridge to North Koreans, to the next generation, then to the nations. We value building long lasting relationships with our local North Korean family, not viewing them as objects of ministry but rather with a heart to sincerely love and dignify each individual. Our ministry currently focuses on:

• Meeting Immediate Needs: cooking and preparing nutritious food and delivering to homes.
• Raising Awareness: organizing seminars & prayer meetings to raise awareness and equip the South Korean church, hosting short term mission teams that serve alongside us
• Building Relationships: through our food delivery ministry, we are able to visit homes, spending extended time to listen, counsel, and pray for each individual every week.

We truly desire to do life together. Out of this desire, a few members of the Bridge Ministry team are also planting a church in Jisa-dong, a small city near Busan where many local NK refugees reside. I am currently serving as part of the church staff.

A Bit About Me
A couple years ago, my life and its trajectory looked very different. I was living in LA pursuing acting and had become quite content chasing after my own success and happiness whilst remaining a decent “Sunday Christian”. But towards the end of 2022, I took some time to pray, and I felt God’s loving invitation to return to first love with Him. His kindness led me to repentance, and suddenly the lukewarmness, idolatry, and compromise in my heart were made clear to me. I felt the need to leave LA, my career, & my relationship, and although the past few years have proven to be more difficult than I could have imagined, my heart’s confession remains the same. Jesus is King, worthy of all and more beautiful than anything. And as He proves to me again and again without fail, that He is real living hope, that His lovingkindness is unfailing, that He is my friend who will never let go of me, I cannot help but be compelled to share the same love I have received.

Last summer, I had the privilege of going on an extended mission trip to Turkey and South Korea through YWAM (Youth With A Mission). During my last week of outreach in Korea, I met the Bridge Ministry team. Their passion, humility, and love, as well as getting to meet several North Korean elderly and youth, deeply impacted me. A longing and lament arose in my heart for the divided nation of Korea. As I listened to the stories of each individual, stories full of unspeakable trauma and pain, I was gripped by their suffering, and I was reminded of my own roots going back to my grandfather’s escape from the North when he was only a youth. I felt the Father’s heart for the nations, for my mother country and her people, and it overwhelmed me. And although I often feel like the weakest and most broken of humans, I have experienced that beautiful mysterious truth: when I am weak, He is strong. He is so strong. So I will follow Him.
