Note from Naomi:
Over breakfast with a pastor/professor friend from Greece, something clicked for me.
He told me that sharing our stories doesn’t just encourage the listener; it encourages the teller, reminding them of what God has done and why we should keep going.
That’s why I love stories so much. That’s why MAI’s work matters. And that’s why even the behind-the-scenes roles I will play are worth showing up for.
Every story deserves to be told, especially the ones that glorify Yahweh.
He has been so good and faithful, even in the messy seasons of grief and navigating life as a young adult. He has called me to let go of publishing and marketing career plans to serve in ministry in a way completely unique to me.
While I will still live in Knoxville, Tennessee, I am no less of a missionary, even if this looks different than the traditional missionary stories I grew up on.
I won’t be paid for my work, and there’ll be times when I’ll travel across the country and internationally.
Therefore, I need to build a team of supporters to partner with me in prayer and finances. My goal is 30 people/churches giving $100 a month to make this all possible.
If you’re reading this, I’d love for you to be a part of this journey.
Side note – $100 a month helps me visualize the finish line, please give whatever amount Holy Spirit leads you to.

Naomi Sowell spent thirteen years touring across the country and Eastern Europe as a professional musician with her family, The Family Sowell. Grief, loss, and a life lived on the move have shaped her into a storyteller who writes the kind of stories you can walk through hell with because darkness doesn’t have a chance in the end.
When she’s not writing or crafting marketing strategy, Naomi is probably on another adventure with her husband, twin sister, or a close friend — fully caffeinated, easily distracted by the sky, and already planning the next trip. She believes you have to live a good story to write one, so here’s to going on adventures anyway.
In November 2024, while attending an international writer’s conference in Puebla, Mexico, something shifted. Naomi had always known she wanted to travel and write; she just didn’t know where Holy Spirit was taking her.
Enter MAI.
Media Associates International exists to satisfy global hunger for the written word, connecting and equipping Christian writers, editors, and publishers to create excellent content that strengthens the Church and influences society.
Naomi will be serving MAI in marketing strategy and executive assistant roles, bringing her love for storytelling, different cultures, and Jesus into one missional focus.
