We’re Russel & Somee Rutsito, missionaries serving with Awakening Asia in Tokyo, Japan.
God brought our stories together through ministry, and we’re now serving Jesus together with a shared passion to see people encounter Jesus, make disciples, and see the Church strengthened across Japan and Asia.
Japan is one of the least-reached nations in the world, with less than 1% of the population identifying as Christian. We regularly meet people who have never truly heard the Gospel, and we’re passionate about reaching them through evangelism, discipleship, church ministry, and missions.
Our Story
Russel originally came to Japan to pursue a career in technology, but God redirected his path toward full-time ministry. After graduating from Awakening Asia School of Ministry, he now serves in evangelism, discipleship, and leadership.
Somee serves on staff at Awakening Asia. We met through church in 2024, became friends, and eventually began dating after seeking guidance from our pastors. In 2026, we got married and are now serving God together.
🌏 Our Mission
Our heart is to see Japan encounter Jesus and to help raise up a generation of believers who know God and boldly share the Gospel.
We currently serve in Tokyo, with a particular focus on Shibuya, where our church has recently moved into a new venue that will also serve as a café and ministry hub.
We also have opportunities to travel throughout Japan and Asia to support evangelism, church planting, and leadership development.
