We are the Metcalfes—Sean and Brittany, along with our four children: Eilah, Tozer, Eden, and Gracie. We as a family have been in awe of who Jesus is, and it is our joy to follow wherever He leads. Our desire is to see people encounter Christ, be rooted in His Word and His Church, and become disciples who make disciples. After years of prayer and discernment, God has led our family to join Ido House in rural Japan, where we will serve alongside Aaron and Sarah McKisic. We believe ministry is an outpouring of our love for Jesus and that God has called our entire family—not just Brittany and me—to joyfully make Christ known among those who have never heard.
God has specifically called us to the rural town of Uchiko in Ehime Prefecture, a region of approximately 1.26 million people. While professing Christians are already a very small minority throughout the prefecture, access to the gospel becomes even more limited in rural communities like Uchiko. Home to roughly 14,600 residents, out side of Ido House’s efforts and a handful of believers, Uchiko has little to no christian witness. For many people, opportunities to build meaningful relationships with Christians who can articulate the gospel are exceedingly rare. We believe this is why Jesus calls His Church to go. Rather than waiting for people to seek out the gospel, we desire to faithfully live among our neighbors, love them well, cultivate authentic Christ-centered community, and bear witness to Jesus through both our words and our lives.
We believe the gospel is most compelling when it is both proclaimed with our lips and demonstrated through Spirit-filled lives lived in authentic community. Our prayer is that, through our family, many would catch a glimpse of the goodness of Jesus, discover their deepest delight in Him, and join in His mission to make disciples of all nations.
