Welcome! I’m Sylvia, and I’ve had the joy of living and serving in San Francisco for over 10 nine years.
I serve as the Director of Community Development and Resourcing at Because Justice Matters, a Christ-centered ministry dedicated to helping women, girls, and families in our urban communities flourish. Our mission is simple but profound: partner with God to see lives restored, communities thrive, and hearts filled with defiant hope. I believe all individuals, created in the image of God, deserve the opportunity to grow and flourish, regardless of their history or challenges.
With a passion for Christian community development, and over fifteen years of cross-cultural ministry experience including in Chile, Brazil, and Mozambique I bring both strategic and pastoral insight to our work. My heart is to create spaces where families are nurtured spiritually, emotionally, and relationally, and empowered to step into the abundant life God intends. Every program, from Brave Space groups and Bible study to in-home pastoral care, is designed to reflect God’s heart for justice, restoration, and flourishing.
But I cannot do this alone. I believe in the power of collective action and community partnership. That’s why I invite you through your prayers, encouragement, and financial support and to join me. Your involvement allows me to walk alongside families, invest in the next generation of leaders, and continue our long-term commitment to sustainable, transformative work in the Tenderloin and beyond.
Psalm 126:5–6 reminds us: “Those who sow with tears will reap with songs of joy.” I see this promise alive in our community every day through restored relationships, empowered youth, and families stepping into defiant hope. Your partnership helps make this possible.
