Update From The Vandeput Family in Belgium

by | May 21, 2012 | Missions Articles

Living the life of a missionary brings its ups and downs. The very act of living by faith is a series of times where you are on top of the world followed by being scared out of your wits. I’m not just talking about financially (although that’s definitely a part of it), I’m more talking about having the guts to live out a calling that doesn’t make sense to 95% of the people you’ll meet.

When you try to explain what a missionary is and what we do to people here in Belgium, one of the most common responses is “Why? Why would you leave your lives in America and bring your family here?” I love being able to respond with all sincerity, “Because we believe in the call of God on this country and on your life and we want to see you experience God so that you in turn set your nation on fire for the Lord.”
When the vision of Ninth Hour was just a twinkle in our eyes, the Lord spoke to each member of our core team about three things in particular:

• Bringing a new sound of worship to Europe
• Establishing an altar to the Lord
• Discipleship

It’s so exciting that as of this month, we are actively walking out all three of those first words He spoke to our hearts.

With the release of Réveille, Ninth Hour has started a work of bringing original, French worship music to the French speaking world and as of a week ago, we have our first official intern with more coming in the next months. An even more recent development is that we have just partnered with another European ministry and are going to begin a full time school in January.

We have launched the Commission Prayer Room where we are rapidly expanding into prayer/worship sessions throughout the day and night. It is so exciting to see this ministry expanding outside of Ninth Hour as people from different congregations and walks of life plug into the vision of establishing a center of prayer and worship just down the street from the European Commission where the decisions are made for all of Europe. It is a strategic location where we release strategic prayers!

The great thing about this faith walk is that He hasn’t brought us to just do these things, but so much more! We are now involved with helping women out of human trafficking and the sex trade industry; we are involved with training and equipping hundreds of youth each month; we are on the board of different ministries and networks as advisors; we have begun helping different ministries in the area of worship and behind the scenes production and we are even involved as the Evangelical Church representatives to the Israeli Ambassador. These are just a few of the other opportunities that God has brought our way as we walk obediently in what He has called us to do.

The Lord is truly leading us through the mountains and valleys. It’s not all victories, but the defeats don’t last long because we have the King of Kings leading the way; a fire by night and a cloud by day. Even though at times it might be hard for people to understand why we chose to live this walk of faith, for us at Ninth Hour, there is no doubt that we are exactly where the Lord has called us to be.

Why is it Important to be Resilient?

The facts are only sometimes representative of reality, and there’s more to the story than we see. It’s powerful when we tune in to that compass bearing, look to God to help us create a complete picture of reality, and not just say, “Truth is whatever my sense is, but Lord, tell me the facts and the greater vantage point.”

Navigating the Pain of Change and Disappointment

That was the order we were given within minutes of discovering our residencies had been denied renewal. The city hall official was not hostile or aggressive, simply delivering orders. I responded that we would “absolutely not be leaving in thirty days.” She mentioned they would send a police officer to our door if we did not comply. I told her she could send the king; I still would not leave after thirty days. That was impossible!
