Called to missions

by | Feb 1, 2010 | Missions Articles

It wasn’t that long ago that I was sitting in a church service listening to a conversation via satellite between the Pastor of the congregation and a young man who was serving as a missionary in the Middle East. He had found his calling and was living it out with such excitement and joy.  With no regrets and no reserves he was faithfully serving his king, Jesus Christ.  My heart was gripped at that moment and I felt more of a passion for missions than ever before. I realized that I wasn’t very in tune with God’s heart for the nations and I asked Him to give me an opportunity to be involved. Less than a week later I had a phone conversation with Elias Reyes, the founder of this ministry and was introduced to Modern Day. He talked about how Modern Day exists to help people who are called to missions achieve their dreams of making a difference in this world. He asked me if I wanted to help build this ministry and be a part of fulfilling the Great Commission. I knew that the Lord was doing something very unique and bigger than I could have ever imagined and that this was an opportunity of a lifetime. I gratefully accepted his invitation.

God is a missional God. It is His desire to be reunited with his children. He loved us so much that He sent His own Son as a missionary to give his life so that we could be in a relationship with Him. As we turn to Him and realize how much He loves us, we realize that He has this same love for everyone. 2 Peter 3:9 says that God is “not willing that any should perish but that all should come to repentance”. He is giving all of us an opportunity to be a part of what He is doing in the hearts of people from every tongue and every tribe. He is calling on us to GO into all the world and to make disciples of every nation. As we hear His call and as we go, we will become part of a movement. A movement that has been going strong for over two thousand years. A movement that will not back down no matter the cost. A movement that will continue to grow and spread like a wild fire and do whatever it takes so that no one is left behind. You are a part of this movement. You are called.

The facts are only sometimes representative of reality, and there’s more to the story than we see. It’s powerful when we tune in to that compass bearing, look to God to help us create a complete picture of reality, and not just say, “Truth is whatever my sense is, but Lord, tell me the facts and the greater vantage point.”

Navigating the Pain of Change and Disappointment

That was the order we were given within minutes of discovering our residencies had been denied renewal. The city hall official was not hostile or aggressive, simply delivering orders. I responded that we would “absolutely not be leaving in thirty days.” She mentioned they would send a police officer to our door if we did not comply. I told her she could send the king; I still would not leave after thirty days. That was impossible!
