Merry Christmas and Happy New Year from The Bridge Foundation!
If you’re in America, you most likely celebrated this great day like many others—close to loved ones, opening lots of presents, eating your favorte comfort foods, and watching “It’s a Wonderful Life.” It was probably a day of fun, laughter, and thankfulness. We thank God for the blessings in our lives when we see the faces of our families full of joy on the day of the Lord’s birth.
But in many places around the world, it is celebrated very differently. Here in Malaysia, we had a big family gathering and a BBQ! When it’s 90 degrees year-round, you can do that sort of thing. In northern Cambodia, dedicated workers supported by The Bridge Foundation spent Christmas Eve and Christmas Day going to 15 different Buddhist villages to preach the gospel. Previously unreached people heard the wonderful story of Jesus’ birth for the very first time that day and put their hope and trust in Christ. I recently visited some of these workers in Cambodia and was in awe and humbled by their dedication to see these villages reached. Almost all were young adults and were working full-time jobs on top of spending every evening preaching the Gospel.
In Orissa state in India, another TBF worker spent Christmas day bringing his crusade tent to various villages to preach the Gospel. This pastor does this even thought Orissa is the center of India’s worst persecution of Christians. His church was burnt down twice and his own brother was killed for preaching the Gospel. Days before Christmas, this pastor contacted me in urgent prayer because they police were at his home trying to beat him up. He and his wife hid in the house to fool the police that they were not home. In the face of this kind of persecution, he brings his tent and crusade team to preach the Gospel to unreached Hindu people on Christmas Day. They not only preached but fed everyone in the village and brought gifts for the children.
So as we soak in the “afterglow” of Christmas and begin to make resolutions to burn off that holiday ham weight, remember the sacrifice of those in Asia that are preaching the Gospel to those that have never heard—even on Christmas Day. You can help these powerful ministers of the Gospel, and many others, to continue their work by giving to The Bridge Foundation through Modern Day. Until all have heard,
