The mission of Matthew & Sherry is to prepare mariners for missions through quality mariner & safety training.
YWAM Ships is a rapidly growing fleet of 26 vessels serving in a wide variety of conditions around the world, working to improve the quality of life for isolated people. Vessels provide dental, optometry and primary health care assistance to people who have little or no access to medical care.
Matthew works with YWAM's School of Navigation and Seamanship (SONS) by providing instruction & training globally - both in a classroom setting and onboard the vessels.
Our training program, MAST Global, serves by informing and engaging crew members in the basics of on-board safety, in addition to the basics of seamanship for crew and trainees immediately involved with deck operations of the vessel.
The goal is to prepare crew and trainees with the skill set to carry them to whichever YWAM vessel that they will serve aboard in the future.
By training proficient mariners, the vessels in the fleet will continue to provide essential services and increase in their reach globally.
Nations served include Fiji, Greece, Marshall Islands, PNG & Vanuatu.
Matthew & Sherry have been walking in their calling to missions from God for nearly 30 years.
It is their desire to see men and women prepared both physically and spiritually to serve in any maritime missions setting around the world.
They live in Texas with their 6 children - Jacob, Liam, Tristan, Dominic, Beatrice & Aaron.
Matthew is from Oregon, USA. He joined his first outreach to Mexico in 1987 aboard the m/v Anastasis and has been serving in maritime missions ever since. He holds his US Merchant Mariners Credentials and his passion is training the next generation of mariners who desire to serve in maritime missions.
Sherry was raised in the UK and holds Master of Land Economy degree. After qualifying professionally, her journey into missions began in 1996. She met Matthew while working on board the m/v Caribbean Mercy the following year. Since then she has been family-raising and supporting Matthew as he travels in his role with YWAM SEM.
Check out our December 2017 Newsletter for a year in review for the MAST Global Training Program and how Nason receved the medical attention he desperately needed in Papua New Guinea.
You may know that we are partner-supported volunteer missionaries and we remain in ministry by your generosity.
If you can help us financially we would certainly appreciate it - God’s blessing to you!
