MAST Global, founded by Matthew & Sherry Baumgardner, equips and mobilizes faith to action through maritime ministry.
We facilitate technical and maritime training for Youth with a Mission's ocean-going vessels so that missionaries are equipped for service on board, because the laborers are few.
Our goal is to train an additional 300 missionaries by 2023 in partnership with YWAM Ships Aotearoa, reaching the isolated peoples of the South Pacific, and to deepen the quality and breadth of technical and maritime training across the YWAM fleet.
YWAM has a rapidly growing fleet of 28 vessels serving in a wide variety of conditions around the world, working to improve the quality of life for isolated people. Vessels provide dental, optometry and primary health care assistance to people who have little or no access to medical care.
The YWAM Koha has made its way into the graving dock in Lyttelton, New Zealand where she will receive her new paint scheme and repairs to her equipment.
Technical and Maritime Training
Our training program, MAST Global, serves by informing and engaging crew members in the basics of on-board safety, in addition to the basics of seamanship for crew and trainees involved with deck operations of the vessel.
The goal is to prepare crew and trainees with the skill set to carry them to whichever YWAM vessel that they will serve aboard in the future. By training proficient mariners, the vessels in the fleet continue to provide essential services and increase in their reach globally. Nations served include Greece, Fiji Marshall Islands, Papua New Guinea & Vanuatu.
Matthew & Sherry have been walking in their calling to missions from God for nearly 30 years.
It is their desire to see men and women prepared both physically and spiritually to serve in any maritime missions setting around the world.
They live in Texas with their 6 children - Jacob, Liam, Tristan, Dominic, Beatrice & Aaron.
Matthew is from Oregon, USA. He joined his first outreach to Mexico in 1987 aboard the m/v Anastasis and has been serving in maritime missions ever since. He holds his US Merchant Mariners Credentials and his passion is training the next generation of mariners who desire to serve in maritime missions.
Sherry was raised in the United Kingdom and her journey into full-time missions began in 1996. She met Matthew while working on board the m/v Caribbean Mercy and since then she has been supporting Matthew as he travels in his role as Training Instructor. She is pursuing her MA Intercultural Ministry Leadership degree.
You may know that we are partner-supported volunteer missionaries.
We invite your prayer & financial support for our family serving the ship ministries of YWAM
through MAST Global Mariner & Safety Training. Thank you!
