Walking Alongside Churches (WAC) in Ethiopia to Reach the Unreached
Welcome, and thank you for visiting my Modern Day Missions page.
My prayer is that this space invites you into shared obedience to the Great Commission as we trust God together to bring the gospel of Jesus Christ to unreached families in Ethiopia and beyond.
“Therefore go and make disciples of all nations…” Matthew 28:19–20
Who I Am
My name is Assefa Olkeba, and I serve as a missionary in Ethiopia, called by God to walk alongside local churches and help them grow into healthy, mission-minded communities.
I serve with my wife, Deborah, and our three children Hasset (Joy), Boaz, and Abigail. As a family, we live by faith and depend on the Lord and His people as we obey His call.
For more than two decades, God has allowed me to invest in discipleship, evangelism, leadership development, and church mobilization, particularly among pastors and church leaders serving in challenging contexts.
Why This Calling Matters to Me
Although Jesus’ command is clear, many churches lack the training, confidence, or opportunity to engage in gospel outreach. In many regions:
• Evangelism is left to a few individuals
• Churches feel unequipped to reach their communities
• Some believers face opposition and persecution for their faith
God has placed a burden on my heart to help churches move from inward focus to outward mission, and to stand with believers who remain faithful to Christ under pressure.
What I Do as a Missionary
My missionary calling focuses on equipping, encouraging, and strengthening the Church:
• Training pastors and church leaders in discipleship, evangelism, and holistic mission
• Mobilizing believers to share the gospel through everyday relationships and special occasions
• Distributing Bibles and gospel resources, especially in underserved and unreached communities
• Supporting persecuted and vulnerable churches, offering encouragement, prayer, and practical help
• Mentoring leaders so local churches become the primary agents of gospel transformation
I believe the Word of God, when placed in the hands of believers and seekers, continues to work powerfully long after we leave.
Recent Ministry Impact (Praise God)
We thank God for His faithfulness in the Walking Alongside Churches (WAC) movement. By His grace, up to January 2026:
• 69 pastors completed National WAC Training of Trainers
• 311 pastors from 161 churches were trained across 6 locations within 7 church clusters
Expected impact through these trained leaders:
• 3,220+ ministers to be further equipped
• 40,000+ believers to be mobilized for gospel outreach in their own communities
All glory belongs to God. I am deeply grateful to partners whose prayers and support make this fruit possible.
Why I Am Inviting You to Partner With Me
As I give my life to serving churches, leaders, and persecuted believers, my family and I rely on faithful partners who walk with us in prayer and support.
Your partnership enables me to:
• Continue training and mentoring pastors and leaders
• Travel to serve churches in multiple regions
• Distribute Bibles and gospel materials
• Stand with persecuted churches in times of need
• Care responsibly for my family while remaining fully available for ministry
“I seek not the gift, but the fruit that increases to your credit.” Philippians 4:17
How You Can Walk With Us
If the Lord leads you, you can partner with us through:
• Monthly or one-time financial support
• Prayer for protection, wisdom, and spiritual fruit
• Standing with persecuted believers through encouragement and practical help
Every partnership is a testimony that we are co-laborers in God’s mission.
