HE MAKES EVERYTHING BEAUTIFUL IN ITS TIME. ~ECCLESIASTES 3:11

I’ve wanted to be a missionary ever since I was 13 years old. Now, I get to be one!

My name is Rachel. I had a radical encounter with Jesus when I was 12 years old, and my life has been a beautiful adventure ever since. I learned Spanish when I was a teenager to prepare for missions; travelled and ministered with my Dad internationally for two years after high school; moved to an amazing Christian community in Blaine, MN for an unexpected 8 years after that; became a Nutritional Therapy Practitioner in the meanwhile and started my own business in the field of Natural Medicine; and NOW, finally, I am getting to live in Norway as a full-time missionary!

NORWAY

The Lord has called me to become a staff at the YWAM Grimerud base in Norway. It is located in Ottestad, about 75 miles north of Oslo, Norway’s capitol, and is a well established base that is a hub for many other Norwegian YWAM bases and is also effectively sending out many short and longterm missionaries.

HE’S IN THE DETAILS

I can’t believe God has called me to Europe! I have loved Europe for many years and always dreamed of getting to live here. What I didn’t expect is that I’d get to do so as a missionary.

My younger brother James is also staffing at this base, and it has been one of my favorite things to do life and ministry with him! It had been over 8 years since I’d lived near a family member, so having him around is truly a gift from God to me!

MY ROLE

For the first 5 months here, I staffed an international discipleship school and then led a 10 week outreach to Albania with a team of 10 people, where we got to share the gospel with many Muslims.

In Albania, God unexpectedly gave me a call and vision for taking over the kitchen back at the base. So, I now serve as the head chef and kitchen manager, feeding around 150 people a day. As a certified Nutritional Therapy Practitioner, I am delighted to be able to use my passion for good food to serve missionaries as they prepare to go to the nations or come back to the base for seasons of rest.

Currently, our base has sent 42 families and individuals into full time missions, and 74% of them are working in countries that are statistically “unreached” by the gospel.

I’m so thankful I can be one small piece of this much bigger puzzle, and right now, I get to do that with an apron on in the kitchen.

LONGTERM VISION

Since I was a teenager, God has been growing in me a heart for Japan and North Korea. I am regularly praying for these countries and believing that at some point in my future God will send me to one of them as a missionary.

LET’S STAY IN TOUCH

Thank you for your friendship in my life. If you care to hear more details about the specifics of this journey or just want to stay in touch, I would love to talk with you.

I’m a bit of an old-fashioned soul + specifically love letter-writing, so feel free to send me some snail-mail! (I promise to write you back.) Otherwise, email or texting is great too.
