Steve and Barbara Johnson are working with Youth With A Mission (YWAM) in Budapest, Hungary were Steve serves as the Base Leader.  After graduating from Texas A&M University in 1987 Steve and Barbara were married and moved to Seattle.  After a brief engineering career they followed the call into missions that God burned into their hearts during their university days.  Their overseas journey began in Amsterdam where they joined YWAM staff and received training for two years.  Again trying to discern and follow the call of God, Steve and Barbara, along with their 9 month old baby Emily, moved to Budapest in 1994 to join a small YWAM team at work in the city.  Their passion was to reach and disciple young people in Hungary and throughout the Eastern European region who were disillusioned after the fall of soviet dictatorship.  The Johnsons were blessed with four more children (three boys and a girl) all born in Hungary.  They have now been living in Hungary and serving with YWAM Budapest for over 20 years.  Reaching and discpling the younger generation remains at the core of their vision as Hungary slowly emerges from decades of oppression and occupation.
The YWAM Base in Budapest offers a Discipleship Training School (DTS) and is engaged in outreach throughout the city.  This takes the form of street evangelism, ministry to the homeless, serving refugees, music outreach, prison ministry, and more.  The YWAM team has established a Coffee House and ministry center in the heart of the downtown café and arts district. Here many types of programs and events are held, all aimed at reaching the lost, building up and equipping the body of Christ.
