Safe Home Parents

by | Feb 21, 2017 | Missions Articles

** The following is the first of a two-part installment of articles written by Safe Home parents. Safe homes are created to help bring love, support, healing and protection for young people who have been abused and trafficked.

Our 10 days between serving at the safe house is over and it’s time to go back in.  We will leave at 6:30am with hot coffee, the dog, lots of bags for our ladies, and 2 suit cases full of clothes.  The ride in is always quiet and peaceful for us.  We like to worship and listen to praise music to help prepare for our “landing”.

It’s SO important to come in on a FULL tank!  One of the girls told us “I was in a bad mood and when I saw ya’ll , I got so happy!”  We have a charge to give our best, our all, 100% to these ladies and babies each rotation. We glean on our days off for things to share with the girls.  We have added them to our kitchen table by prayer request, so we pray for them more consistently.  We found a brand new fondue set at Good Will to do shrimp in this week end!  We have special items for each girl….. a wig head to hold the wigs we roll, art pencils for our artist, shoes that hopefully will fit one girl, and lip gloss and a sparkle file from Sally’s for our new girl.

We do have another girl!!!!!!  She is 17, and has been separated from her child in foster care.  They have been reunited in the safe house, so now we have 3 babies all 1 yr old and this ones a girl!   That should mix the house up good. We have BIG plans this rotation.  First is the darling Valentines we have for each lady and the babies.  We are playing the famous bingo which will fill a table with make up brushes, candy, hair products, chips, and many other items.  This is their favorite activity.

We always have those tender moments of true stories and pointing to Jesus for these ladies.  They are attentive and feel free to share some of their struggles and questions.  Each lady is unique and full of purpose and new beginnings.  They are really growing and going forward. Please pray for us as we bring the Lord behind the locked gates where His precious ones have been abused at such a tender age.  Pray for favor with our new girl as we compete in games and cook the house down with good old Southern cooking to comfort any broken heart.  We are glad we can serve one heart at a time and show them the love of Christ.

Why is it Important to be Resilient?

The facts are only sometimes representative of reality, and there’s more to the story than we see. It’s powerful when we tune in to that compass bearing, look to God to help us create a complete picture of reality, and not just say, “Truth is whatever my sense is, but Lord, tell me the facts and the greater vantage point.”

Navigating the Pain of Change and Disappointment

That was the order we were given within minutes of discovering our residencies had been denied renewal. The city hall official was not hostile or aggressive, simply delivering orders. I responded that we would “absolutely not be leaving in thirty days.” She mentioned they would send a police officer to our door if we did not comply. I told her she could send the king; I still would not leave after thirty days. That was impossible!
