Staying Prepared for God’s Shifting Seasons

In 2 Timothy 4:2, Apostle Paul charges young Timothy with the following exhortation, “Preach the Word; be prepared in season and out of season; correct, rebuke and encourage—with great patience and careful instruction.” Paul was encouraging Timothy to be ready for anything at any time. As we all know, times and seasons shift and it’s important for us to remain alert and ready to move with the alterations that come our way.

In May of this year (2015), I had a week that I will forever refer to as “my crazy week.” This week was “crazy” in an amazing way. I had set up a lunch meeting with a pastor here in the Dallas/Fort Worth area simply because I had a sense in my spirit from THE Spirit that we needed to meet together. Let me interject that in the same week I felt led to set up our meeting, during a time of personal worship and prayer, I saw a brief picture in my mind’s eye (vision) of a red key descending from heaven that was being given to me. More on that later.

Let’s fast-forward to our lunch meeting. After catching up, I began to share with this pastor about a message I’ve been sharing as I’ve travelled this year out of Habakkuk chapter 2. In mid-sentence, the pastor stopped me and said, “Jason, I feel right now that God is saying that you are to preach this message at my church this Sunday.” Realize friends that we were meeting for lunch on Friday! You see, you have to be ready for the SHIFT. After checking with my wife, I agreed to preach at his church that Sunday. The meeting Sunday was incredible, and our time together ended with the pastor declaring to his entire church the God had spoken to him to open up the entire church facility to us and our ministry for events and anything else we needed. Remember the vision of the red key? That week I received a key from the pastor to an office within their church, something I had been praying for. What a week!

The sudden shifts don’t stop there. I began to immediately work, worship and pray out of this office and had another encounter with the Lord. I’d already been stirred in my spirit to began hosting monthly regional worship and prayer events in the Dallas/Fort Worth region. In my mind, I was going to start from scratch, build relationships, come up with a name and create a website. As I began praying about this, the Lord arrested me and spoke to me to see what an old friend of mine, Sean Feucht, was up to. Sean is founder of Burn 24/7, a ministry that currently represents over 200 worship and prayer “furnaces” around the globe that host monthly worship and prayer gatherings in their respective regions.

I remember the Lord speaking to me in that moment that He was about to connect me to the Burn 24/7 and that I was to seek out how I could serve with Burn 24/7 regarding the Dallas/Fort Worth region. To make a longer story shorter, Sean and I connected over the summer and by summer’s end, I was officially set in as director of Burn 24/7 for the DFW region. Currently we are preparing for our third regional event here in the DFW metroplex on December 5th, 2015.

I hope you are encouraged by my story, especially if you’re in a season right now where you feel that not much is moving. Know that God can come SUDDENLY and shift everything. Let’s continue to be faithful in the “slow times” so that when the “suddenlies” come, we will be prepared and  ready to flow with God’s shifting seasons.

The facts are only sometimes representative of reality, and there’s more to the story than we see. It’s powerful when we tune in to that compass bearing, look to God to help us create a complete picture of reality, and not just say, “Truth is whatever my sense is, but Lord, tell me the facts and the greater vantage point.”

That was the order we were given within minutes of discovering our residencies had been denied renewal. The city hall official was not hostile or aggressive, simply delivering orders. I responded that we would “absolutely not be leaving in thirty days.” She mentioned they would send a police officer to our door if we did not comply. I told her she could send the king; I still would not leave after thirty days. That was impossible!
